Random Acts of Kindness II

elf houseStill smiling from my listening to Il Divo’s magnificent music posted earlier today, I answer the door and meet a smiling face on someone who was asking if she had the right house….. is the house that has the tree with the face on it that stands alongside the road that runs behind our house near the back entrance to the subdivision?

Of course I answered, yes, this is the house. (I had posted a picture of this tree with the face and Elf House on an earlier blog….see picture) She proceeded to tell me what a joy and pleasure it is to look for this tree each time she drives in this way. She mentioned how she loves to drive slowly when passing so that she can see and enjoy the smiling face of the tree’s friendly face alongside the road and how this always brings her a smile, especially when she sees the elf house installed at the base.

I love it too. We did have such fun decorating that little elf house where granddaughter Anna and I planted flowers near the doorway, plus we added little trees at Woody’s base (that’s what we named our tree), adding wreaths to the little windows at Christmas time, plus adding a red bow around Woody’s neck.

This spreader of kindness standing at my door also told how she loved to slow down see the view each time she passed but especially today when she noticed the little stone steps that are leading up to the front door of the elf house. Part of my joy in working with my granddaughter was all the fun we had putting those stones in place. But now when I hear how the joy both she and her husband feel as they drive past this tree, makes it even more fun of a memory.

I feel joy each time I see this tree too. What a bonus joy it is to hear that it brings a smile into her day as well. What a treat that she took time to stop and tell me…..really adds to the spreading of joy, don’t you think? How a simple acts of kindness can spread much joy!

Simple acts of kindness….yes, but are they really random? I think they happen often. It takes little effort to stop and spread the joy. I hope that sharing this simple act of kindness, helps with making your day one of smiles too. Pass it on.

I listen to this often. I’ve not discerned the import of the message to me yet but I know that it is calling me. So I listen often and patiently wait to know the higher message for me.

Listen to the halleluja, praising.
Hear the beauty of voices and orchestra.
Enjoy.

Lessons from turkey vultures

Posted by Whiz on March 15, 2010

I couldn’t believe it either. I wanted the bird to be an eagle, not a vulture. I was told that’s what that magnificent bird was I saw perched high up in a tree that day and as he caught my eye as I drove past. There he was sitting high up in the top branches of the tall tree with his wings expanded, stationary, looking like a kite awaiting lift-off….I was certain it was an eagle. Doesn’t Eagle sound so much more inspiring than vulture as a symbol used for teaching us and giving us inspiration of how we are to move through life?

I’ve been paying closer attention to symbols that show up in my life….all part of my journey within. Okay, I was willing to accept that this vulture maybe was showing up as a help to me as I clean up in various areas of my life. But I much preferred the thought of it being a majestic eagle for my inspiration.

I saw this large, graceful bird soaring overhead when I drove past that same tree later in the day….no longer sitting in tree, but moving high and soaring. Good reminders, to soar over the mess, glide over the cleaning efforts of removal of stacks and stacks of papers and “stuff” that accumulates.

Then the next day what do I see while driving? Another of that same type of bird, gliding effortlessly high overhead. I then saw another, and another, and another, until a total of 15 were all soaring over my head….effortlessly gliding…..all of them with total grace and without apparent effort.

This really captured my attention. I knew they had something more powerful to teach me than just helping with my clean up. I had to look more closely, listen within and learn what these “upward soaring beings” were saying with their showing up for me with such numbers.

I enjoy Ted Andrews’ book called “Animal Speak”. This is an interesting and informative dictionary of various animals and birds where he discusses how the wisdom of various creatures in the animal world can help us recognize and interpret them. It’s fun to read about how we may learn from nature, and sometimes easier to hear truths about ourselves coming through nature rather than God.

Turns out there are many pages written pertaining to vulture….many interesting ideas. I’ll share just a few. New vision….yes, they have a wonderful ability to see…..what an inspiration, and great reminder. Even though the vulture is sometimes considered a symbol of heaven and earth, spirit and matter, good and evil, guardian and avenger, these many myths surrounding this symbol, they all indicate that vulture restores harmony.

Since vultures are probably the most misunderstood and misaligned bird, and since people (including me) have often seen them as gross and associate them only with death, the idea of having good vision certainly elevates this perception of vulture, doesn’t it.

The vulture also can be a symbol of purification that restores harmony. As they soar with a grace and an ease that is thrilling to watch, it helps uplift the seeming mundane experiences so that we see them as misperceptions. We learn that as we let go of the misperceptions, as we trust all good and One Creater, all complete, we know that we too can soar above anything that tries to pull us down……helps us to know that the authority to move without restriction or feeling weighed down can never be taken away.

The vulture is known for their wonderful ability to see and how it uses the thermals rising from the earth, to give lift to their flight. Their ability to use the thermals is often likened to the ability to see the subtle energy emanations from the body, similar to that we’ve all seen as we dirve down a road on a hot day and see the heat rising off the road.

The vulture is also known to have a powerful sense of smell……can help me to smell out something that doesn’t quite smell right in my life. Who wouldn’t enjoy and appreciate this ability?!

I love this reminder that we too have the ability to see and feel the lift, the love, the support and perfection all around us, complete. No opposition. All good. One Creator. Yes, the vulture helps remind me how to fly.

3 Knocks in the night

Posted by Whiz on March 6, 2010

Knock, knock, knock. That’s what I heard in my sleep. I heard them clearly enough to awaken me. I was tempted to answer, “come in” out loud, but by then I realized that I had heard these in my sleep.  I did answer “come in” in my mind. Then I sat up in bed listening, unsure if there actually had been someone knocking on my door. but I couldn’t hear anything other than the tick, ticking of the clock and the occasional hissing from the ionizer,  so I laid down and went back to sleep.

The next morning I sat quietly. I take time to sit listening, reading, writing, and practicing 360 vision for inspiration. As I looked out through the trees, I noticed an opening in the branches and tree trunks. I then looked through that opening, looking for a clearing in the branches. As I looked through to the next opening, looking for my clear shot as had been described in the movie, “Legend of Bagger Vance”. (If you’ve not seen this movie yet, I highly recommend you do. In fact watch it several times–you will hear new messages with each viewing) I kept looking through one opening into the next, and the next.  All I was seeing were more trees, no clear shot, as did Juno, the golfer in the movie who was looking for his authentic, clear shot to find his way out of his woods. I couldn’t see that clear shot for me, but listening, I heard a message that said to me, “the answers are not out there, they’re within, go within to find your answers.”

Since that morning I have been consciously choosing to go within as I move through my day, driving, painting, computing, reading, attending meetings, art classes all done with more focus and conscious effort to move thought inward. When I’m walking through a parking lot,  going into a store, walking out to the mail box,  wherever, I think to walk from within. I am not certain what that really means. I do know that when I consciously think of  my movements as originating and coming from within, then I feel more balanced, stronger, more graceful.

Another morning quiet time following this practice of consciously moving from within, I noticed that I could now see an opening in those trees.  As I lifted my view upward and looked up, I could see the clear, blue sky above. Good reminder isn’t it?

Continuing with my discoveries path this week, I found another that fills me with gratitude for inner listening. At a recent board meeting where many current challenges were being discussed and we looked for solutions to seemingly insurmountable problems, the members agreed that we study this further, setting another meeting date when we were to bring back ideas that had unfolded to each of us.  I thought about and looked for human solutions, focusing on what we could do to figure our way out of these difficulties, and I felt very heavy. I couldn’t find any solution or idea for us to do that felt right.  I felt heavier and heavier the longer I focused on how to figure things out as I thought about things that night after the meeting and again the next morning.

That next day as I got into my car and turned on the radio, it was tuned to classical music on satellite radio that came on playing Tchaikovsky’s “Waltz of the Flowers”.  I love this concert and turned the volume up. I turned it WAY up, listening to, enjoying and hearing all the individual instruments as they loudly played their individual parts so clearly, and as all were played together,  this most beautiful of concerts was created.  And then I noticed that I was feeling better. I felt uplifted. I was feeling happy. I felt joy.  As I listened to these measures of beautiful music all playing together with complete synchronicity, complete harmony, complete unity, I felt the heavy fog lift and fade away into its native nothingness. I felt light. I felt joy.

This is what I want to feel. This is where I choose to hang out.  We all have a choice of where our thoughts hang out.

And this is what I feel when I listen to that Il Divo video singing “Amazing Grace” (see earlier blog) As Amazing Grace is playing right now a I write this blog.  Listen.  Do you hear the grace? Listen to that voice of Truth as it knocks on that door of consciousness.

Isn’t that a magnificient conducter? Yes! I am listening. I hear It. Come in.

Let’s try This

Posted by Whiz on March 5, 2010

Semantics. Maybe that’s part of my problem in establishing a web site. What is a post? What is a page? How do I create picture, columns, blogs on this web site.
I have not written in my Up, Up and Away blog for quite some time. I am posting here today to learn whether it will post on my website as a blog. If it does, then I’m moving to here for future entries.

message from backyard birds

Posted by Whiz on March 5, 2010

Okay, I think that worked. So now I’ll write to my blog. As I sat this morning for my quiet time I noticed a robin land on a branch high up in a tree near my outlook window. Then another. This struck me as unusual as typically robins are hopping around on the ground pecking and digging. These two were perched high up and observing what was going on around them. I remembered that a few days ago, two robins showed up for me, and again, high up rather than on the ground as they perched on the deck visible from my quiet time vantage point. What does robin represent? What are my friend’s message for me? Animal Speak refers to robin as a sign of new growth. When a robin appears it tells me that I can expect new growth in a variety of areas in my life. Also teaches me to sing my own song and keep moving forward. I like this.
Then I watch as two wrens show up investigating the ceramic, blue, Williamsburg bird house that I have had mounted on the back of my house for years but have never seen any birds occupying it. They were having a conversation with first one hopping on the entrance edge peering inside, and then the other, all the while discussing the merits of this home. Evidently didn’t meet their standards as they then flew to the window box outside my window. First the male showed up, pecking and digging, checking things out. Then a whistle, “hey, come check this place out” to his companion who then also flies over and starts her pecking, digging. Nope, doesn’t work for me. So then off to the planters on the side of the deck, first one checks it out, then calls to the partner to join in the investigation. I loved watching this mini-movie of life and was lead to look up wren in my Animal Speak book. These were Carolina Wrens, of course. Cherished by many, including me, and as seen to be a most resourceful and adaptable bird. AS refers to the the bold vocal power, reminds me to sing with confidence. Don’t hesitate to confront any threat, perceived or otherwise with power and spitfire attitude. Hmmmmmm. As I using the resources available to me? Am I too wrapped up in day to day that I’m forgetting to sing? How can I better use more effectively what is available that will teach me to build within my own environment? And that’s what I did with this blog entry on my developing website…..build it and then they will come! Don’t you just love the language of bird?
